While the real estate market does slow down a bit during the winter, in 2021 we can expect it to still stay busy. Follow these tips for successfully showing a home during the winter months.
1. Snow Safety
First impressions are everything! Take the time to clear any walkways so that buyers and agents can use them safely. If there are icy spots, sprinkle rock salt or sand so that no one slips and gets hurt.
2. Illuminate rooms with lots of light.
With the days being shorter and the sun setting sooner, especially in the northern states, be sure to keep rooms illuminated. If you don’t have a lot of natural light coming from the windows, close the blinds or curtains and turn on the lights in every room, closet, and even the basement and/or attic.
3. Make sure everything is sparkling clean.
This should be a given in any season, but be sure to have the home spotless and if necessary, hire someone to deep clean the home to entice potential buyers.
4. Create an environment that’s cozy and inviting.
The winter is all about soft, fuzzy blankets, a cozy fire, and an atmosphere where you just want to curl up with a good book. Get inspiration from Pinterest or your local coffee shop and recreate that in the home.
5. Avoid strong aromas.
While you want your home to smell good, you don’t want to overwhelm visitors with competing scents. While many winter scents are inviting, be sure not to go overboard and avoid artificial fragrances if possible.
