Q: What made you become interested in real estate?
A: A friend asked me to join him one summer, and I had a lot of construction knowledge that helped his buyers see opportunity in the property. I really liked it and I love hosting people in my hometown, so it was natural.
Q: What is the most interesting thing that happened during an open house you hosted?
A: I was hosting an open house and after talking with a potential buyer for 10 minutes before I asked for her email to send her listings. As she told me her last name I asked what her daughter’s name was. I had been dating her daughter for a few months, and now we are married. So I met my mother in law at an open house!
Q: What was your favorite moment in your career so far?
A: Selling a home to a Chinese buyer. The whole experience was overwhelming, but also how I made a video and got it to him for his approval launched a new chapter in my career.
Q: What do you wish you had known when you first got your real estate license?
A: Go with your gut, and remind your client to do the same.
Q: In what ways have you seen the real estate industry change since you started?
A: Buyers are a lot more educated about homes on the market and the comps. It's easier for them to do research so they feel they know a lot, but I am always learning in this industry and it’s a lot more complicated than it looks. Yes, there are simple parts, but some of the challenges are huge and extremely pivotal, so experience is mandatory for success.
Q: What’s the most challenging part of your job?
A: Staying in contact without being overbearing.
Q: If you could sum up being a real estate agent, what would you say?
A: A psychologist that knows the law to sell a home.
