Q: What was your favorite moment in your career so far?
A: There have been many. I've written about 6 or so contracts on my laptop, while stopped at a restaurant due to the urgent nature of this business. During one such time, I was with my client for a casual dinner following delivery of an offer for a home we had just viewed. Within minutes, I received a phone call and was informed that there were multiple offers. I quickly booted my laptop and Wifi, consulted my client, and we delivered an aggressive final offer. The offer was so great, the builder accepted immediately! My client was, and to this day is, thrilled with his (first!) home in Navarre Beach, FL.
Q: What made you become interested in real estate?
A: As I built and subsequently financed my first home in 2014, I was enthralled by the intricacies of the overlapping processes; at that point I was sold.
Q: What do you wish you had known when you first got your real estate license?
A: Some things, one simply has to experience first-hand rather than hear. What I'm referring to are suggestions such as "remember, it's a people business", and "consistency is the key" -- little anecdotes that are so true, but take time to realize. We live in an age of instant gratitude and tend to forget that some gifts are realized over time. Patience is a virtue, and together with discipline creates a grand outcome.
Q: In what ways have you seen the real estate industry change since you started?
A: Having been in this industry only a short time, still I've seen a few interesting signs within the market. One of the most fascinating is massive appreciation in certain micro markets. For example, 20% in a single year. Thankfully, this is limited to unique areas and properties, otherwise it would lead to the creation of a "bubble" - which is undesirable and at times unavoidable.
Q: What’s the most challenging part of your job?
A: Managing a work / life balance. Coming from an industry where time is inherently regulated (Active Duty Military), to one where it is strictly self regulated, can create a challenge. I truly love my work, the result of which is that it's easy to "stay at the office" another hour or two on any given day, often times late into the night.
Q: If you could sum up being a real estate agent in five words or less, what would you say?
A: Always changing gears!
