Experience: 15 1/2 years Specializations: Relocation, Move-Up/Move-Down, Luxury Areas Served: Greater Seattle (King, North Pierce and South Snohomish Counties) Q: What made you become interested in real estate? A: Initially because of an interest in real estate investment. A close second was on account of the difficulty finding a good agent when buying my first home in 2002. Q: What is the most interesting thing that happened during an open house you hosted? A: Not sure about interesting. Most memorable was on a very hot listing. I had at least 100 people through inside of a few hour window without a moment to excuse myself to use the restroom. Maintaining professional composure was challenging. Other than being very uncomfortable until I could close out the open and having a horde of people through, it was thankfully uneventful. Q: What was your favorite moment in your career so far? A: A past client, my friend's mom and now also my friend, is a retired teacher and three-time cancer survivor. She asked me whether she would be better off going into retirement living or buying her last condo. I told her I couldn't give her that answer, only to encourage her to explore her options with an open heart and to lead with her heart. She looked into and visited a few retirement communities. I showed her some condos in the neighborhood she wanted to live in. At the first showing, we ran into a woman who also attends her church and knew her late husband. The following week, we visited a really lovely unit in a very upscale building. She's a voracious reader and the building has a common area library right outside the unit door. She's also very sociable, and so is the building. Because it's so nice, she was worried it was too expensive. It was well within her budget and most importantly it spoke to her heart. She made a contingent offer, and I knew the broker so they convinced the seller to work with us. I sold her existing condo in five days. The seller invited my client to the building's annual holiday party in the lobby, which was held before we even closed. She met several of her soon-to-be new neighbors. She was so happy with her new home, it moved her and subsequently me to tears. This was at the end of 2018/beginning of 2019. She is still doing well and loving her home! Q: What do you wish you had known when you first got your real estate license? A: How to be a successful entrepreneur. Q: In what ways have you seen the real estate industry change since you started? A: The process overall is mostly unaltered. Technology has really disrupted and shifted how we approach the process. Even so, technology has missed the mark on how relational a business real estate is. We have the opportunity to impact and change lives, thus important to do so with the intention of leaving every client better off for a transaction. Q: What’s the most challenging part of your job? A: Being randomized, and I'm very hard on myself in the meeting expectations department. Q: If you could sum up being a real estate agent in five words or less, what would you say? A: Most challenging entrepreneurial gig ever.
